REPORT DATE: 08-02-2018 REPORT TIME: 0020 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: GREEN CANYON 468 IMAGE DATE: 08-02-2018 IMAGE TIME: 0009 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 27°30'32" N/90°33'22" W AREA: 1.69 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: A possible oil slick was observed in satellite imagery. The sheen appeared to originate from the location of an oil platform and is believed to correspond to NRC report #1220237. The slick extends approximately 2.6 nm NNE away from the point source and is measured 0.44 nm wide. It shows a good contrast against the ocean background and is increasing its width with distance. The anomaly’s orientation aligns well with ocean current data near the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: Since the anomaly is related to an NRC report, there is no uncertainty.
