REPORT DATE: 08-04-2018 REPORT TIME: 1015 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 08-03-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2354 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 16.10 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. An oil slick suspected to be from the destroyed Taylor platform covered a 5.7 nm long by 0.8 nmi wide area to the east of the suspected point source. Winds were from the west-southwest at 5 knots at the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: The image did not include the suspected point source but the location of the oil slick in the presence of winds from the west-southwest allowed for a medium high assessment. It is possible that a small area to the north of the eastern most extent of the anomaly was also oil from the suspected point source but it was not included since it was not connected to the main oil slick.
