REPORT DATE: 08-07-2018 REPORT TIME: 0219 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 6627 IMAGE DATE: 08-06-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1048 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1B MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 40°24'03" N/72°22'13" W AREA: 1.64 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The narrow anomaly was believed to an oil slick that emanated from the Coimbra shipwreck south of Long Island, NY. It stretched to about 3.3 nm east of the wreck site in agreement with 5-10 kt easterly winds at the time of the image. The slick had moderate contrast to its surroundings and stood out of place. UNCERTAINTIES: Since the anomaly was connected to a source or repeat leaks, there is no uncertainty that the anomaly is an oil slick.
