REPORT DATE: 08-07-2018 REPORT TIME: 1630 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: GREEN CANYON 680 IMAGE DATE: 08-06-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1630 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 27°17'31" N/90°58'04" W AREA: 0.01 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It is believed to be an oil slick that emanated from an oil facility mentioned in NRC report #1220723. The linear anomaly extended approximately 0.12 nm SE-NW and 0.03 nm in width. The anomaly mostly exhibited relatively thicker oil which was the white portion. The orientation of the anomaly aligned well with both ocean currents, which were moving towards the NW at 1.25 kts, and winds, which were coming from the SE at 5 kts, near the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: Although the NRC report #1220723 reported .03 ounces of hydraulic fluid, this possible oil anomaly took place at the same oil facility at the same time of the NRC report.
