REPORT DATE: 08-08-2018 REPORT TIME: 1400 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 08-08-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1151 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 19.03 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It was believed to be an oil slick that emanated from the Destroyed Taylor Platform. The slick was approximately 15.81 nm NW-ESE and 0.26 nm in width. The anomaly aligned well with ocean currents near the time of the image which were moving towards the east-southeast at about 1 kt. A portion of the dark anomaly was distinguishable from natural phenomena, as a result, a Medium-High confidence was given. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to natural phenomena within the vicinity, the actual extent is unknown. Also, there was not enough wind data to support the orientation of the anomaly.
