REPORT DATE: 08-09-2018 REPORT TIME: 2030 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 08-09-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1657 UTC DATA SOURCE: TERRA MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 250 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 15.88 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was 10nm long and up to 0.6nm wide, and had a silvery appearance in sun glint which had a good contrast with the surroundings. The anomaly was located next to the destroyed Taylor platform towards the northwest end. The NW-SE alignment of the oil slick agreed well with ocean currents. Based on the appearance of the oil slick and the proximity to Taylor platform, we have high confidence that this is oil. UNCERTAINTIES: Uncertainties are minimal given the appearance of the anomaly and the close proximity to the repeat leak source.
