REPORT DATE: 08-11-2018 REPORT TIME: 2000 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 08-11-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1620 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT7 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 4.59 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It is believed to be an oil slick that emanated from the Destroyed Taylor Platform. The anomaly extended approximately 2.73 nm W-ENE and 0.24 nm in width. The anomaly exhibited a combination of thinner oil, the dark portion, and relatively thicker oil which was the white/silvery portion. The orientation of the anomaly aligned well with both ocean currents, which were moving towards the E-NE betwen 1-2 kts, and winds, which were coming from the NW at 10 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to cloud coverage within the vicinity, the actual extent of the anomaly was unknown.
