REPORT DATE: 08-13-2018 REPORT TIME: 0915 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: VERMILLION 82 IMAGE DATE: 08-12-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1648 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 29°12'37" N/92°36'28" W AREA: 0.30 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It was linear in shape, measured 3.9 NMI long by 0.1 NMI wide, appeared white and shimmery in partial sunglint, clearly stood out from the ocean background, and was removed from natural phenomena. The western extent the anomaly directly intersected a pipeline, and this is believed to be where the suspected oil sheen originated from. Exact winds at the time of the pass could not be determined. UNCERTAINTIES: Though the western extent of the anomaly is connected to a pipeline, it may not have originated from that point. Also, there were no reported oil discharges or unknown sheens yesterday in Vermillion 82.
