REPORT DATE: 08-13-2018 REPORT TIME: 1645 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 08-13-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1040 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1B MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 2.55 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured 8.58 NM in length and 0.13 NM in width. Winds were 10kts out of the southeast. Confidence that the anomaly seen was oil is high. The anomaly had high contrast with the surrounding area and widened with distance from the source. It appeared to be originating from a known repeat leak source Wreck 1487, a pre WWII wreck. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly was not seen directly connected to Wreck 1487 in the image but it was still close enough to be the suspected leak source.
