REPORT DATE: 08-14-2018 REPORT TIME: 2045 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: GRAND ISLE 33 IMAGE DATE: 08-13-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1317 UTC DATA SOURCE: WORLDVIEW3 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 1.24 meter LOCATION: 29°02'48" N/89°55'26" W AREA: 0.13 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly's approximate width measured 0.01 nmi and stretched roughly 1.4 nmi in length. The anomaly was located 17 nmi SE of Isle Grande Terre, LA. Measured winds at the time of observation were under 5 knots in the area. A confidence of Medium was determined given that the anomaly appeared black in color and had a definable contrast to its surroundings in high resolution optical imagery. There was no discernable point source. UNCERTAINTIES: A white colored area appears to be associated with the anomaly and is believed to be smoke given its transparent characteristics. Other features associated with similarly shaped anomalies were observed in the area. These features are not believed to be clouds. Booming activity is also believed to be observed in the nearby vicinity indicating possible cleanup efforts are underway.
