REPORT DATE: 08-14-2018 REPORT TIME: 0130 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 08-13-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2356 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: Standard VV RESOLUTION: 25 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 138.3 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. An anomaly measuring 9.5 x 5.0 nmi wide was observed emanating from the repeat leak source the destroyed Taylor Energy platform. Measured winds at the time of observation where 5.0 kts and out of the N. Modeled ocean surface currents were towards the NE at 1.0 kt. Confidence was determined to be High given the anomaly possessed a contrast to its background surroundings and there appeared to be a point source. UNCERTAINTIES: There was a relatively low wind area in the nearby vicinity and the full extent of the anomaly is unknown. The anomaly's western boundary intersected a convergence area and appeared to become elongated along the SW-NE direction.
