REPORT DATE: 08-15-2018 REPORT TIME: 0145 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 08-14-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1639 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2A MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 29°08'22" N/90°20'39" W AREA: 1.45 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. Three distinct anomalies were located in Terrebonne Bay, LA and measured roughly 0.5 nmi wide. There is no obvious point source and the anomalies appear to be lined in a E-W direction. Measured winds speeds at the time of observation were calm. Confidence was determined to be Medium-High given the close proximity to shore. The anomalies did possess feathering characteristics while appearing black with a bright/silver center. UNCERTAINTIES: Satellite analysis indicated the anomalies were not live vegetation due to the lack of detectable chlorophyll; however, the presence of dead biomass may exist.
