REPORT DATE: 08-17-2018 REPORT TIME: 2315 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: KEATHLEY CANYON 875 IMAGE DATE: 08-17-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1638 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 26°07'55" N/92°02'24" W AREA: 0.90 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was believed to be an oil slick that emanated from an oil facility due to its direct connection to it. The anomaly was approximately 1.33 nm N-S and 0.16 nm in width. The anomaly was black and had a large contrast to its surroundings. Since the anomaly was in the vicinity of known natural seeps, a Medium-High confidence was given. UNCERTAINTIES: The was an oil facility SW of the anomaly that appeared to have emanated a possible oil anomaly but there was a known natural seep in that exact location. This further supported the Medium-High confidence given for the reported anomaly. Also, both ocean current and wind data near the time of the image did not agree with the orientation of the anomaly.
