REPORT DATE: 08-21-2018 REPORT TIME: 0200 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 08-20-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2351 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 78.42 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was believed to be an oil slick that emanated from the known Destroyed Taylor Platform. The anomaly was approximately 44.5 nm W-NE and 1.17 wide at its widest point. It was black in color and had a large contrast to its surroundings. Both winds, coming from the W between 5-10 kts, and ocean currents, moving towards the N-NE between 1-1.25 kts, aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: There were low winds and natural seeps in the vicinity therefore making the full extent of the anomaly unknown.
