REPORT DATE: 08-25-2018 REPORT TIME: 1450 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: GRAND ISLE 72 IMAGE DATE: 08-25-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1155 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°46'44" N/90°04'48" W AREA: 42.64 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It measured approximately 9 nmi long by 1.75 nmi wide, and exhibited a well defined edge on the north side and diffuse, possibly weathered edges everywhere else. No origin could be concluded, but the anomaly encompassed at least 2 structures, one of which was an oil facility. This could possibly be related to, and was in the exact same location as NRC #1222469 from 8/23. The anomaly stood out from other features in the image and was removed from natural phenomena. Ocean currents were about 1 knot. UNCERTAINTIES: The origin could not be determined, the edges were not strongly defined against the ocean background, and the shape was generally rounded. All of these factors limit the confidence to Medium.
