REPORT DATE: 08-26-2018 REPORT TIME: 0740 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 08-25-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2234 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 0.81 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: A possible oil slick was observed in satellite imagery. The slick appeared to originate from the location of a known ship wreck (Wreck 1487), a source of repeat oil leaks. The anomaly extends 3.8 nmi west away from the source and is measured 0.11 nmi wide. The anomaly shows good contrast and well defined edges against the ocean background and its direction aligns well with ocean current data near the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: Since the anomaly seems to originate from a repeat oil leak source, there is no uncertainty.
