REPORT DATE: 08-26-2018 REPORT TIME: 1430 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SHIP SHOAL 349 IMAGE DATE: 08-26-2018 IMAGE TIME: 0009 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 28°03'41" N/91°03'42" W AREA: 29.11 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured roughly 4.5 x 2.3 nmi and appeared to be attached to a local point source. Satellite derived winds at the time of observation were 5.0 kts and from the east. Modeled ocean currents in the area were 1.0 kt and towards the southeast, and aligned well with the anomaly's orientation. Confidence was determined to be High given a recent report associated with a crude oil discharge in the area (NRC#1222646). The anomaly also possessed a sharp contrast to its background surroundings. UNCERTAINTIES: There is some uncertainty in the point source given the bulk of the anomaly is located from the suspected point source; however, it remains attached.
