REPORT DATE: 09-06-2018 REPORT TIME: 2215 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 696 IMAGE DATE: 09-05-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1630 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°18'28" N/88°12'06" W AREA: 0.02 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: ***PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IMAGE IS MORE THAN 24 HOURS OLD*** Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It was believed that this oil slick was associated to NRC report #1223775. It was approximately 0.17 nm SW-NE and 0.03 nm in width. It was white in color and was distinguishable from natural phenomena within the vicinity. Winds near the time of the image aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly which were coming from the SW between 5-10 kts. The anomaly was directly connected to oil facility that was provided based on the coordinates from the mentioned NRC report. UNCERTAINTIES: There was high cloud coverage in the area but the anomaly was still visible. Also, ocean currents near the time of the image did not align with the orientation of the anomaly.
