REPORT DATE: 09-07-2018 REPORT TIME: 1055 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: NORTHEAST U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7073 IMAGE DATE: 09-06-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2234 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 41°01'10" N/68°52'43" W AREA: 1.48 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil but it is believed to be an oil slick that resulted from a possible bilge dump. Located approximately 72 nm ESE of Nantucket Island, the anomaly has a strong contrast to its surroundings and widened with distance. It was about 3.6 nm long and it appeared that the vessel that created it was moving south, as that is there the slick is darker and more defined. We could not assign this anomaly a higher confidence that medium-high since it was not directly attached to a point source, although, there was a vessel about 2.2 nm directly south of the fresh end of the slick. UNCERTAINTIES: Since the anomaly was not connected to a point source, we are uncertain of the suspect vessel that created it.
