REPORT DATE: 09-07-2018 REPORT TIME: 0245 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 09-06-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2356 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'15" W AREA: 48.18 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It is believed that this oil slick was emanating from the known Destroyed Taylor platform. It was approximately 23.25 nm NE-WSW and 1.51 nm at its widest. It did widen with distance towards the western end of the anomaly. Both winds and ocean currents aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly. Winds were coming from the E between 5-10 kts. Ocean currents were moving towards the SW between 1-1.5 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly was dark and distinguishable from natural phenomena in certain areas. Towards the western end of the anomaly, there were natural seeps within the vicinity that made it difficult to determine the full extent of the anomaly.
