REPORT DATE: 09-08-2018 REPORT TIME: 1445 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 09-08-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1146 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: Standard VV RESOLUTION: 25 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'15" W AREA: 53.43 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to be emanating from a likely point source; destroyed Taylor Energy platform. The anomaly stretched 19.7 nmi towards the southwest and measured 2.5 nmi at its greatest width. Measured wind speeds in the area at the time of observation were 5 knots and out of the east. Modeled surface ocean currents wereunder 1.0 kt with variable directionality. Confidence was determined to be High given the likely association with a repeat leak source. The anomaly possessed a contrast to its background surroundings. UNCERTAINTIES: The full extent of the anomaly is unknown due to the satellite imaging technique and the low wind in the area.
