REPORT DATE: 09-12-2018 REPORT TIME: 0245 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: GRAND ISLE 31 IMAGE DATE: 09-11-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1632 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 29°02'58" N/89°53'40" W AREA: 38.38 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was approximately 9.41 nm NE-SW and 3 nm at its widest. The anomaly was black, thin oil, and white, relatively thicker oil, in color. There was feathering seen at the SW end of the anomaly. Winds were coming from the E-SE between 5-10 kts. The anomaly was given a Medium-High confidence due to no known point source or NRC report. UNCERTAINTIES: There were three oil facilities within the anomaly. Also, due to cloud coverage, it was difficult to see the full extent of the anomaly. Lastly, ocean currents were moving in all directions which made it difficult to support the orientation of the anomaly.
