REPORT DATE: 09-12-2018 REPORT TIME: 2115 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 09-12-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1624 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT7 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'15" W AREA: 7.20 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It is believed that this oil slick was emanating from the known Destroyed Taylor platform. The anomaly was approximately 4.04 nm E-W and 0.77 nm at its widest. It was a mixture of black, thin oil, with a white shimmery center, indicating relatively thicker oil. Winds were coming from the E between 5-10 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: There were clouds within the vicinity that made it difficult to see the full extent of the anomaly. Also, ocean currents near the time of image were moving in all directions making it difficult to further support the orientation of the anomaly.
