REPORT DATE: 09-12-2018 REPORT TIME: 2200 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 139 IMAGE DATE: 09-12-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1624 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT7 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 29°20'55" N/88°50'55" W AREA: 3.13 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was approximately 3.47 nm E - WSW and 0.45 nm in width. The anomaly was a mixture of black, indicating thin oil, with a white shimmery center, indicating relatively thicker oil. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the NE between 5-10 kts which aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: There was no known point source or reported NRC. There was a possible pipeline that could've been associated with this anomaly. Also, there were clouds within the vicinity. Lastly, ocean currents near the time of the image were moving towards the NE at 3 kts which supported the orientation of the eastern end of the anomaly.
