REPORT DATE: 09-17-2018 REPORT TIME: 1020 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: EAST BREAKS 945 IMAGE DATE: 09-16-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1649 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2A MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 27°01'03" N/94°54'30" W AREA: 48.68 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly had moderate contrast with its background and had some jagged turns. Winds were light and variable at the time of the image and the pattern of the anomaly suggested that it occurred within an eddy which is supported by modeled ocean currents. The anomaly extended about 20 NM in length and appeared to originate from a point source. Given the above factors we have MEDIUM confidence in this assessment. UNCERTAINTIES: There appeared to be several convergence lines and areas of possible biogenic matter in the vicinity of the anomaly. Therefore the full extent could not be determined.
