REPORT DATE: 09-18-2018 REPORT TIME: 0445 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: WEST CAMERON 198 IMAGE DATE: 09-17-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1619 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2A MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 29°18'34" N/93°14'32" W AREA: 0.81 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly had very good contrast with its backgound and had a distinct silvery/white hue associated with thicker oil. The anomaly stretched about 2 NM long by 0.4 NM wide at its widest and aligned very well with winds out of the NW at 10 KT. This anomaly may be related to a prior reported anomaly NRC #1212987, associated with a barge recovery operation in May 2018. Given the above factors, we have HIGH confidence in this assessment. UNCERTAINTIES: Although we have high confidence that this anomaly is oil, it may not be associated with the point source noted, a former barge recovery operation, given that it is detached from this point source by roughly 0.6. NM and that we have no further information on whether this recovery was successful.
