REPORT DATE: 09-18-2018 REPORT TIME: 1315 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 09-18-2018 IMAGE TIME: 0018 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1B MODE: Stripmap (SM) HH RESOLUTION: 5 meter LOCATION: 29°39'27" N/94°45'42" W AREA: 2.65 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. A possible oil slick observed in satellite imagery in Trinity Bay stretched from northwest to southeast for 3.2 nm and was up to 1.1 nm wide. Winds were from the south or southwest at 10 knots at the time of the image. The anomaly appears in the vicinity of numerous oil facilities, had unnatural sharp turns including perpendicular turns with mostly large contrast to its surroundings, but some edges were diffuse. These characteristics increased the likelihood to medium that the anomaly is oil. UNCERTAINTIES: Some edges were rounded and diffuse, which is uncharacteristic of oil. There were no reports of oil in the area, which suggested that the anomaly could be biogenic. In fact, there were other natural phenomena in the bay as well.
