REPORT DATE: 09-21-2018 REPORT TIME: 1430 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 09-21-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1207 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 29°21'34" N/91°25'32" W AREA: 2.42 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was approximately 1.71 nm SW-NE and 1.51 nm at its widest. The anomaly was dark in color and there were no visible signs of natural phenomena within the vicinity. UNCERTAINTIES: There were no known point source or NRC reports. In the image there seems to be a possible oil facility or object near the SE corner of the anomaly but we do not have any information on it. The anomaly was spreading in all directions making it difficult to determine its orientation. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the SSE between 5-10 nm. Ocean currents near the time of the image were moving towards the SW at 1 kt.
