REPORT DATE: 09-23-2018 REPORT TIME: 0130 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 09-22-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1850 UTC DATA SOURCE: AQUA MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 250 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 32.41 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured 6.6 NM in length and 3.24 NM in width. Winds were 10 kts out of the SE. Confidence that the anomaly seen was oil is Medium-High. The anomaly exhibited high contrast with the surrounding area, had a relatively jagged shape, and appeared black in color outside of sunglint. The anomaly also appears to have originated from the destroyed Taylor Energy platform, a known repeat leak source. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to the moderate resolution of the imagery the exact dimensions of the anomaly could not be determined. All measurements of the anomaly's dimensions should be considered estimates.
