REPORT DATE: 09-26-2018 REPORT TIME: 1530 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 09-26-2018 IMAGE TIME: 0001 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 42.49 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: A possible oil slick was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The slick appeared to originate from the location of Destroyed Taylor platform, a source of repeat oil leaks. The anomaly extends approximately 7.06 nm SW from the platform and is measured 4.6 nm wide as its widest distance. The anomaly exhibits dark contrast and well defined edges against the ocean background. The direction aligns well with ocean current data near the time of image. UNCERTAINTIES: There is no uncertainty since the anomaly seems to be originating from a repeat leak source.
