REPORT DATE: 10-01-2018 REPORT TIME: 1015 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SOUTH PELTO 21 IMAGE DATE: 10-01-2018 IMAGE TIME: 0009 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 28°50'26" N/90°42'52" W AREA: 10.84 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located 14 nmi south of the Isles Dernieres Barrier Islands Refuge, LA and spanned an area 3.8 x 3.5 nmi. The anomaly also possessed gaps and sharp turns. Measured winds in the area at the time of observation were 10 knots and from the east. Modeled ocean surface currents were under 1.0 kt and towards the northwest. Confidence was determined to be Medium-High given the sharp turns and contrast associated with the anomaly. There appeared to be no obvious point source; however likely feathering characteristics matched well with wind directions. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly was in possession of several diffuse edges which could be indicative of biogenic material on the water's surface.
