REPORT DATE: 10-12-2018 REPORT TIME: 1430 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 10-12-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1155 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 12.32 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It was believed that this oil slick was emanating from the known Destroyed Taylor Platform. The linear anomaly was approximately 14.41 nm NE-SW and 0.31 nm in width. The anomaly was black and distinguishable from natural phenomena within the vicinity. The anomaly was directly connected to the oil facility. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the NE between 5-10 kts. Ocean currents were moving towards the SW between 1.5-2.5 kts. Both wind and ocean data supported the orientation of the anomaly.
