REPORT DATE: 10-14-2018 REPORT TIME: 0145 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: GRAND ISLE 73 IMAGE DATE: 10-13-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1632 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 28°46'38" N/90°05'47" W AREA: 2.53 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. Anomaly appeared dark in the absence of strong sun illumination, but showed very slight interslick color variability on the western extent, too subtle to have used in a thickness assessment. It exhibited well defined edges against the ocean background, was removed from natural phenomena, clearly stood out from any other feature in the vicinity, and tested negative for vegetation. The dimensions were approximately 5 NMI long stretching horizontally, and 0.10 NMI wide on average. UNCERTAINTIES: There was no clear point of origin, but one oil facility did reside within the spatial extent of the anomaly, and the anomaly also intersected pipelines.
