REPORT DATE: 10-15-2018 REPORT TIME: 0515 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 39 IMAGE DATE: 10-14-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2353 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 29°22'25" N/88°55'04" W AREA: 8.10 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The segmented anomaly was about 17.9 nm long and believed to be an oil slick that emanated from an oil facility referenced in NRC report #1227403, which was issued on October 13, 2018. The facility is located about 7 nm due west of the western edge of the anomaly in Breton Sound block 53, but was beyond view of the satellite pass. The slick had a high contrast against homogeneous, grey-colored surroundings and exhibited feathering toward the NW in accordance with winds from the SE at 5-10 kts at the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: We were unsure of the anomaly's point source, but based on the referenced NRC report and a previous NRC report (#1226298) from October 2, 2018, we suspected that this anomaly was related to the same source.
