REPORT DATE: 10-16-2018 REPORT TIME: 0200 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 10-15-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1632 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 29°38'05" N/89°01'29" W AREA: 20.41 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located in southern Chandeleur Sound, LA and measured roughly 6.9 nmi long and 2.3 nmi wide. This anomaly may be associated with NRC #1227485. Measured winds in the area at the time of observation were 10 kts and from the southeast. Modeled ocean surface currents where under 1.0 kts with variable directionality. Confidence was determined to be High given the anomaly possessed a silver color near its center and was distinguishable from natural phenomena in the area. UNCERTAINTIES: There appears to be biogenic material within close proximity of the anomaly and therefore the full extent of the anomaly is unknown.
