REPORT DATE: 11-01-2018 REPORT TIME: 1133 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 11-01-2018 IMAGE TIME: 0001 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 29°18'57" N/89°06'57" W AREA: 0.71 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The slender and linear anomaly measured about 2 nm in length and was oriented in a N-S direction in agreement with winds of about 10 kt at the time of the image. The anomaly had high to moderate contrast to its surroundings and was out of place. No other features in the immediate area resembled the anomaly reported here. Furthermore, it was not connected to any detectable point source. UNCERTAINTIES: The lack of both a point source and report of any oil spills at the location of the anomaly prevented us from assigning anything higher than Medium confidence that the anomaly could be an oil slick.
