REPORT DATE: 11-12-2018 REPORT TIME: 1615 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 11-12-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1151 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'21" N/88°58'05" W AREA: 24.04 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery emanating from the Destroyed Taylor Platform. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It extended North, consistent with observed winds from the south at 10kts, and fanned out with increasing distance from the source. Approximate dimensions were 3nmi in length by 3nmi in width on average. The anomaly showed good contrast against the ocean and was well removed from any false positive signatures. UNCERTAINTIES: The far extent of the feature had diffuse edges that gradually tapered off, introducing uncertainty in the true spatial extent of the slick.
