REPORT DATE: 11-25-2018 REPORT TIME: 0111 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 11-24-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2351 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 82.33 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in radar satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It was believed to be an oil slick that emanated from the destroyed Taylor site since it was connected to it. The slick exhibited a large contrast against its homogeneous surroundings and had well-defined edges. Furthermore, its orientation agreed with 5 kt winds from the ENE at the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: Since the anomaly exhibited the commonly-seen characteristics of an oil slick in radar satellite imagery and was connected to a repeat leak source, there was no uncertainty that the anomaly was an oil slick.
