REPORT DATE: 12-13-2018 REPORT TIME: 1400 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 12-13-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1135 UTC DATA SOURCE: COSMOSKYMED MODE: ScanSAR Wide VV RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 29°24'04" N/89°47'00" W AREA: 10.02 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The 7.9 NM long by 1.2 NM wide (at its widest point) anomaly had good contrast with its background and aligned well with winds out of the SE at 10-15 KT. This anomaly is very likely associated with the Lake Washington Wellhead Blow Out. Therefore, we have HIGH confidence in this assessment. UNCERTAINTIES: Marshes, canals, sandbars and other geographic features along with tidal action, currents and shallowness of the water in the vicinity of the oil spill may have interfered with the true extent of the appearance of the oil in this image. Additionally, oil may have worked into local channels and canals that may be too small to resolve in this scene.
