REPORT DATE: 12-22-2018 REPORT TIME: 2345 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SHIP SHOAL 130 IMAGE DATE: 12-22-2018 IMAGE TIME: 1647 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2A MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°45'01" N/91°13'33" W AREA: 0.15 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 55 nmi west-southwest of Port Fourchon, LA and measures approximately 1.5 nmi in length and up to 0.05 nmi in width. It appeared dark in color with well-defined edges. The anomaly may be related to NRC report #1233767, although the image was acquired a few hours before the report time. Winds were approximately 5 kts from the SSE, and modeled currents were toward the NW, both of which align well with the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: There was no clear point source for the anomaly. In addition, the anomaly was slightly displaced from the location of the NRC report. Therefore, confidence is medium that this is oil.
