REPORT DATE: 12-30-2018 REPORT TIME: 1530 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: SOUTHEAST U.S. AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 12-29-2018 IMAGE TIME: 2319 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 26°11'29" N/79°28'07" W AREA: 16.19 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was approximately 15.80 nm and approximately 0.35 nm in width. This anomaly was observed approximately 5 nm outside U.S. waters. There were bright objects seen at the SW corner of the anomaly that could have been the point source(s). The anomaly had high contrast to its surroundings. The anomaly had unnatural turns and exhibited feathering. Ocean currents near the time of image were moving NNE between 2-3 kts which aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to the anomaly being in international waters, the point source was unknown. There was another anomaly seen in this image that could have been associated with the reported anomaly above. Will provide a separate report.
