REPORT DATE: 12-31-2018 REPORT TIME: 1300 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 778 IMAGE DATE: 12-31-2018 IMAGE TIME: 0001 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 28°11'30" N/88°29'47" W AREA: 1.02 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It was connected to an oil facility, exhibited good contrast against the ocean background, and was removed from natural phenomena. The possible slick measured 5.5 NMI long by approximately 0.1 NMI wide. Winds were from the SSE at 10 knots, consistent with the orientation of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: The edges of the feature were moderately diffuse, and less defined than what is typically observed in confirmed oil discharges.
