REPORT DATE: 01-16-2019 REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. IMAGE DATE: 01-16-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1040z DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1B MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 0.53 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located near the site of Wreck 1487 approximately 94 nmi south of Cape Cod. It measured approximately 1.23 nmi in length and up to 0.20 nmi in width. Winds at the time of the image were from the southwest at around 10 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: The wind direction did not match well with the orientation of the anomaly, although winds up until several hours before the image time were from the west-northwest, which does match the orientation better. Despite this, given the repeat leak nature of the suspected source, there is high confidence that this is oil.
