REPORT DATE: 01-22-2019 REPORT TIME: 1635 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: PUERTO RICO AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 01-21-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2236 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 20°30'06" N/66°38'39" W AREA: 0.95 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: **Please be advised that this report is based on imagery taken the previous day, but the imagery did not become available for analysis until this morning** Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. It measured about 1.3 NM long and is believed to be a bilge dump caused by a vessel traveling from SE to NW. The anomaly was weathered based on its diffuse borders, and no vessels were found in the satellite image at the time it was taken. The anomaly was located about 135 NM NNW of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was in a completely homogenous area and clearly stood out due to its high-to-moderate contrast with its ocean surface surroundings. Winds were estimated to have been from the SSE at about 8 kts at the time the anomaly was imaged. UNCERTAINTIES: The source is unknown, but its characteristics and distinction from its surroundings gave us moderately high confidence that it contained oil.
