REPORT DATE: 02-08-2019 REPORT TIME: 0130 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: EAST CAMERON 289 IMAGE DATE: 02-08-2019 IMAGE TIME: 0004 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°22'26" N/92°38'17" W AREA: 23.45 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 105 nmi SSE from Cameron, LA straddling the East Cameron and Vermillion lease block areas. It measured roughly 6.4 nmi long and 2.0 nmi wide oriented in an E-W direction. Winds were from the south at 5-6 kts, while modeled currents were to the east at around 1 kt. The anomaly contrasted sharply from the background, and had rounded edges. Some evidence of feathering was present, which matched the orientation of the wind, while the overall orientation of the anomaly matched the current direction well. UNCERTAINTIES: A possible point source could not be determined. There were no known reports of oil slicks in this area. Natural seeps were seen in other areas of the image, although this anomaly was fairly well isolated from those. Thus, confidence is medium that this is an oil slick.
