REPORT DATE: 02-22-2019 REPORT TIME: 0256 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 02-21-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2355 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'15" N/88°58'16" W AREA: 107.5 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured 63.76 NM in length and 2.61 NM in Width. Winds were 20kts out of the SE. Confidence that the anomaly seen was oil is High. The anomaly had high contrast with the surrounding area, sharp unnatural turns, and exhibited feathering. The anomaly also appears to have originated from the destroyed Taylor Energy Platform, a known repeat leak source. This anomaly is likely associated with NRC report #1238287. UNCERTAINTIES: There were some other phenomena in the image that may or may not be related to the suspected anomaly, especially the dark area south of the anomaly about halfway between the anomaly's length.
