REPORT DATE: 03-18-2019 REPORT TIME: 0120 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 03-17-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2355 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: Standard VV RESOLUTION: 25 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 11.64 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly extended approximately 13.8 nmi to the southwest from the site of the destroyed Taylor platform, a known repeat oil leak source, and was up to 0.38 nmi in width. It was well-defined in appeareance in the first portion of the anomaly, then became considerably less defined further to the southwest. Winds from the nearest observing sites at the time of the image were from the NE at 5-10 kts, and have been generally constant in direction for at least the last 24 hours, aligning well with the orientation of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to the repeat leak nature of the suspected source of the anomaly, there are no uncertainties.
