REPORT DATE: 03-23-2019 REPORT TIME: 0005 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: WEST DELTA 73 IMAGE DATE: 03-22-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1632 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 28°56'47" N/89°42'24" W AREA: 1.33 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to originate from an oil facility, and was approximately 5.8 nmi in length and up to 0.16 nmi in width. It appeared dark in color, and was highly distinct from wakes associated with nearby oil facilities. Winds at the time of the image were 5-10 kts from the ENE, which generally align with the anomaly. NRC report #1240743 is co-located with the suspected source and is likely related to this anomaly. Therefore, we have high confidence that this is oil. UNCERTAINTIES: Some likely biogenic material was located adjacent to the anomaly, although it appeared much fainter than the anomaly itself.
