REPORT DATE: 03-31-2019 REPORT TIME: 0140 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 03-30-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1650 UTC DATA SOURCE: ASTER MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 15 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 9.95 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured 5.49 NM in length and 2.28 NM in width. Winds were 15 kts out of the SE. Confidence that the anomaly seen was oil is high. The anomaly had very high contrast with the surrounding waters and exhibited strong amounts of feathering. In addition several areas had a silvery sheen indicating the presence of thicker oil. The anomaly appears to be originating from the Destroyed Taylor Energy platform, a known repeat leak source. The silvery sheen was located on top of the platform. UNCERTAINTIES: The strong winds were causing high amounts of feathering making it difficult to determine the full extent of the oil.
