REPORT DATE: 04-04-2019 REPORT TIME: 0230 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 04-03-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1628 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 24.92 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to have emanated from the known Destroyed Taylor Platform. The anomaly was approximately 42.43 nm in length that oriented NE-SW and approximately 0.36 nm at its widest. The anomaly had moderate to high contrast to its surroundings. It exhibited dark thin oil with white/shimmery relatively thicker oil in its center. There was also feathering throughout the anomaly. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the NE between 10-15 kts which aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: The full extent of the anomaly, width wise, was unknown in certain portions due to clouds and its proximity to a convergence line.
